Getting Rid of Cable?
If you recall that we bit the bullet and got cable a while back. Well, I'm sick of it. All that fake crap just makes me mad. Selfish relationships, plastic beauty, exessive materialism, and spirituality void of any true meaning. Now I know that not everything is that way, but most of it. In my opinion at least. Maybe I'll rant more about specific shows another time.Remember when MTV and VH1 played music videos?
Here's the thing. People find more of their identity from these hollow TV shows than they do from the God who created them. If they're on TV, and if they're rich, they must have the good life. Well, they're also addicted to drugs and alcohol, just as insecure as any of us, and unable to keep lasting relationships. They think, and we often infer, that because they can do whatever they want whenever they want, they live a good life. And because they live the good life, so many of us want to live like them.
Sorry but most people with too much money and fame don't have a clue. Or at least any more than you or I do.
So I want to get rid of cable when our price doubles in January. But Dawn doesn't. This will be an ongoing conversation in our house. Any thoughts?

Answer: Never watch MTV or VH1. Every time I do, I want to shoot myself.
Also, I think it's funny that you posted this, and over on my blog I'm singing the praises of TV. GOOD TV, though.
Love,
Dipes
Dipes,
Yeah, I thought that pretty funny about our blogs. I agree with you that a lot of TV is better than movies now days. But I don't think I'm home at that time and way too cheap for TiVo.
I'm more into reading and listening to music now days. I also like long walk on the beach.
We have never had cable..in 7 years of marriage...I don't think I"ve missed out on anything life changing...we know what's going on in the world...I missed the whole simple life craze...and I don't even know what "the hills" is...only that I've heard that people watch it. I say get rid of it and save your money!!! You can watch almost any t.v. show on High speed internet anyway...the t.v. is almost obsolete (spelling ?? )

TV rules -- you should keep it...at least if Dawn wants to. I don't think either of you could watch "too much" TV because you're both so busy. It's up to you -- a personal conviction. We didn't have cable for the first 14 years of our marriage. But now I kind of like having it.

Cable is great for a few things:
1. The Packers
2. Survivorman
3. The Office in HD
4. Nature/History/Discovery Channels
Beyond these it's like pooping on your money.
i've always heard the saying "guard your gates" - and tv has too much negative to add into your brain. if you've lived without it before, you can do it again.
and if any tv show is a MUST, find it on the internet :o) if you're not willing to go thru the work to watch it on the computer, is it really worth watching then?
Tim,
Don't listen to anyone who says to keep TV. It's a waste of time, money, and your life. Most shows can also be watched on the internet for free. We have been cable free for 6 years and it changed our lives. We ended up becoming missionaries and moving to a third world country....on second thought, keep the cable!
